WELCOME
You've probably arrived at this page because you're at a difficult point in your life. It can feel daunting to consider counselling at first but often talking to someone can make things feel lighter and bring a sense of hope and meaning. Together, we can gently
explore what is going on for you, going at your pace. I am committed to helping you find a way through.
Lorelei is the name of one of my favourite songs by The Cocteau Twins. It is also the name that was chosen for a child I never met. It therefore aptly represents how we can sometimes turn our pain into purpose.
About Me
Hello! My name is Janine.
I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor. I provide therapy to adults and young people over 18 years old. I have a Masters with distinction in Integrative Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy which means I strictly adhere to their ethical code of conduct. As well as my private practice, I work as a relationship counsellor for Relate Bradford & Leeds.

What I Can Help With
Abuse | Alcohol issues | Anxiety | Anger Management | Bereavement | Childless-not-by-choice | Depression | Divorce or Separation | Gender Identity | LGBTQ+ counselling | Family Conflict | Cultural Issues | Identity Issues | Infertility | Loss | Men’s Issues | Menopause | Neurodiversity | Redundancy | Relationship Issues | Self Esteem | Self Confidence | Sexual Identity | Sexuality | Stress | Substance Use | Trauma | Women’s Issues | Work Related Issues
My integrative approach is principally relational and person-centred. This means that building genuine trust and respect in our therapeutic relationship, free from judgement, is my priority. I may also draw from other counselling theories such as CBT, ACT, psychodynamic, attachment theory, compassion focussed therapy, transactional analysis and feminist therapy. I do not give advice or direction as I believe you are the expert in your own life and therefore have the resources within yourself to make the changes you wish to see. However, I might provide techniques to manage anxiety or those difficult emotions that you are experiencing day to day. This helps regulate your autonomic nervous system so that you are not reacting out of the fight/flight/freeze/fawn survival mode. From a place of grounded safety, together we can explore any painful memories if safe to do so. Ultimately, reconnecting with your hopes and needs for the future is the goal of our therapy. Sometimes throughout, I might gently challenge you and offer different perspectives on certain limiting beliefs. I will adapt my approach to meet each client’s individual needs by working pluralistically. In other words, it is my belief that we are all unique and complex beings so collaboration and client preference are key aspects of my approach.
Fees
Sessions cost £60 and last between 50 - 60 minutes. I am happy to negotiate lower fees for unwaged, students or under-19s. Payment is made via bank transfer before our first session.

To book a free 20 minute initial phone consultation, please use the contact form below or send me a text and I will get in contact. I normally reach out via email to arrange this. The phone call is a chance for us both to decide whether we would be a good fit for each other.

Short term counselling normally lasts for 6 - 8 sessions. If you feel you need longer term therapy, we can discuss this. I am happy to book sessions with you on a weekly or fortnightly basis.
Location
I am currently practicing from two locations in central Leeds - a 5 minute walk from the train station - and Calverley village near Pudsey. If you would like face to face therapy, we can discuss which of these is most convenient for you in our initial consultation. Alternatively, I offer sessions online via Zoom or telephone.
